Stupidity results from pride, ignorance or dishonesty

Steve Finnell over at Christian with a view wrote a neat and thought provoking post about how ten people can have ten different views on getting to Heaven, and yet every one of them may be wrong: "however, only God is right."

Whether you or I agree with that statement is up to debate (a good debate I bet too), yet Steve handed down some pretty good quotes from the Bible to prove his point. He does this on a variety of subjects on his blog, and the end results is some pretty nifty discussions. Whether you believe in religion or not his blog is worth a look see.

In this post he wrote about "EIS and Truth. In big bold lettering he writes: "If the 9 or 10 views are contrary to God's Word, then it is due to one of three reasons. PRIDE-IGNORANCE-or-DISHONESTY."

I love this quote. We can actually have some respiratory therapy fun with it. Can you think of a better reason why some people fail to want to change? It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why is it that people in Washington make laws that are un-Constitutional like the recent Health Care Bill? It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why do doctors refuse to listen to the facts that say bronchodilators only treat bronchospasm? It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty?

Why do some doctors talk condescendingly to nurses and RTs despite the evidence this behavior is counterproductive. It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why is it that some people who smoke refuse to believe the evidence that second hand smoke is bad for other people to breath, especially kids? It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why is it that people who make the average income continue to live above their means. It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why do some doctors say they will quit before learning how to enter their own orders into a computer system? It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why is it that people who don't even read bills vote to pass them? It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why is it that people who sit on the hospital board vote to not give the wage earners a raise this year despite voting to spend millions of dollars repairing all the rooms in the hospital. It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why is it that some doctors refuse to take advantage of the skills of the respiratory therapist? It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

Why is it that most doctors still believe in the hypoxic drive theory even though it has been debunked? It's because of pride, ignorance or dishonesty.

I could go on for infinity. Add your own in the comments below, or disagree with me.

While I agree with your statement about pride, ignorance or dishonesty-I'd like to add another. It's not considered one of the "seven deadly" but denial is a strong force as well. It's what keeps smokers from believing that their second hand smoke is damaging and lawmakers from believing that they can continue the status quo without repercussions. I do believe however that a government who will pass a bill contrary to the will of the people and who believes that they know best how we should feed our bodies, raise our children are guilty of pride. Hopefully they will receive a repeat dose of the reality that the voters dispensed in November.
