My 2 cents on gender and race training

Disclaimer: This post criticizes government regulations on hospitals, in particular one that forces hospitals in Michigan to teach gender and bias training. It is not a criticism (or, in my case, a post showing absurdity by being absurd) in any way of my place of employment or the people who create this training).

In Seattle, a student received a failing grade for answering a question: "Only women can get pregnant." And this has since been a topic of many discussions on Twitter and Facebook. And when it came up in my feed, I made the following comment:

The kid might as well get used to it. At my work I had to do extensive training, where we were taught about the new gender definitions. And all the answers were multiple choice. One of the questions was: What is a man?" And the answer with 'penis' was not an acceptable choice. We also had to do bias training. And, like gender training, the answers were multiple choice. And the correct answers that were obvious to us were not the correct answers that we were allowed to choose. In other words, we had to lie and mark what we believed to be the wrong answers to keep our jobs. So, if nothing changes, it's probably good for schools to train kids like this to lie.

And, of course, I left a disclaimer on my Facebook post just like the one above. It's sad I had to put a disclaimer on a Facebook post, but it's what I felt I had to do so someone at my work doesn't get upset with me. So, I added:

So you know, this bias and gender training is not the fault of hospitals. It is the fault of government officials for mandating that hospitals teach this stuff. It's the fault of those who create regulations for hospitals.

And that is true. It is not the hospitals that make us do this. They are mandated to teach this to us by the government. In Michigan, governor Whitmer made Bias Training for hospital staff an executive order. She did this during COVID, claiming that the reason a high number of black patients died of COVID was due to bias in the hospital setting, which is poppycock. I have never in my life seen any patient treated poorly at my hospital due to race. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it does not happen where I work. Besides, there are laws mandating us to treat all patients equally and fairly, which we do.

It would seem that science doesn't matter when it comes to some government officials. Science says that a man is a man and a woman is a woman. Science says that a man has a penis and a woman has a vagina. But, be it as it is currently, we will continue to tell them what they want to hear. And, more than likely, when this kid gets a job, he will not fight the system so he can keep his job.

Echoes of Huxley's dystopia are unnervingly close in today's world. What we deal with resembles elements of conformity, suppressing individual thought, and prioritizing ideology over objective reality.
