It creates a nice mist for inhaling respiratory medicine. Notice it's light enough I can easily hold it in one hand. |
What are the positives?
It's a small hand-held unit. It weights five ounces. You can hold it easily in one hand. You can store it in your purse or business bag. You can easily carry it with you on vacations or wherever you travel. It utilizes no tubing. It doesn't need a noisy air compressor.
It's easy to use. You open up the top and pour in your medicine solution. You push a button to turn it on. A mesh disc vibrates at speeds up to 100,000 times per second. This turns the solution into a mist.
It makes relatively no sound at all, so you won't have to worry about it bothering other people around you. The noise it makes is a soft whisper. Treatment times are less than five minutes. So it won't take up as much of your time as traditional jet nebulizers do.
The cost is $159.89. You can even create a payment plan of 3 interest free payments of $54. This is a great deal considering a month supply of albuterol inhalers is $50 with copay. Albuterol nebulizer solution can be purchased at a fraction of the cost of albuterol inhaler. So, this makes the Aura portable a very affordable nebulizer. Of all the portable nebulizers I've tried, this one has the lowest price.
It comes with one adult and one child size mask. It also comes with a mouthpiece. I personally prefer the mouthpiece to mask.
It also comes with 2 AA batteries and an AC adaptor. The AC adaptor allows you to use it at home. The AA batteries make it a nice portable nebulizer. Treatment times with either power source are similar.
Also important to note that it's FDA approved. This means that it's been fully tested. This also means that it's a durable machine and delivers medicine particle sizes similar to those produced by jet nebulizers.
What are some negatives?
There really aren't many negatives for such a nice nebulizer. But, I had to come up with some to fit my template. A negative may be the price. At almost $160 is a lot of money for most people to fork out. However, if this nebulizer is replacing inhalers, it's definitely worth the price. Plus think no cords and whisper quiet make it well worthy of the price.
Another one is that insurance companies at the present time won't cover this nebulizer. This is basically because jet nebulizers are only $40 and work just as well. So, I imagine that, over time, the price will probably drop. But, considering the cost of making mesh nebulizers, I would imagine the price may stay elevated to some degree for many years to come.
What to make of this?
All you do is push the on button. Then you flip open the top and squirt in your medicine solution. Then you close the top and take the treatment. It's easy. It's nice. It's quick. It's convenient. It's quiet.
