Indications for Intubation

The following are the general indications for intubation and mechanical ventilation:
  1. To breathe for a patient during surgery when anesthetics are used
  2. Neurological deficit (Narcosis, drug overdose, spinal cord injury, Grullain-Barre,
  3. Muscular deficit ( myasthenia gravis, poliomyelitis, malnutrition, )
  4. Protect the airway from aspiration (as in a drug overdose, lack of gag reflex).
  5. Relieve Airway obstruction (laryngeal edema, epiglottitis, bronchospasm, etc.)
General discussion will come later.
