What Is Your Mission In Life?

For years, the dawn brought a recurring prayer to my lips: "What is my purpose in life? Lord, reveal to me the path You wish for me to tread."

This plea was not a fleeting sentiment; I voiced it in the innocence of childhood, in the turbulence of adolescence, and carried it into the responsibilities of adulthood, marriage, and parenthood. "Lord, unveil the mission You have for me. Make me a vessel to amplify Your word."

It was a prayer uttered with the awareness of my introverted nature. I'm not the individual inclined to seize life by the horns or take center stage to lead. That's not my disposition. Perhaps it's because of this self-awareness that I sought divine guidance on how best to serve.

Then, one ordinary day, as I went to pick up my daughter from her best friend's house, a revelation awaited me in the pastor's garage. There, amidst the laughter of playing children, a saying painted on the back wall caught my eye: "Perhaps your prayer has already been answered."

And there was this saying that echoed in my mind, a mantra I repeated often without fully grasping its depth. It wasn't until a few months later, while walking through the woods, immersed in prayer and meditation, that the meaning crystallized. It struck me—perhaps God had already bestowed upon me a mission.

My purpose, the calling God intends for me, could be as simple and profound as ensuring my children grow up to embrace the same faith I hold dear. Sharing the lessons I learn, not just with my children but with others, becomes my mission—sharing God's word through both example and the gift of writing that I've been blessed with.

This, it seems, is the mission the Lord is entrusting to me, a purpose intertwined with the unique ability to convey profound truths with brevity.

It's that simple. And this is something that I can easily do -- have already been doing. It doesn't require grand gestures or standing in the spotlight; it's a mission of quiet influence and the power of words.

My gift is the power of words, a talent for making complex subjects easily understood. I possess the art of writing, an optimism that fosters harmony with others. My unique ability creates a friendly environment where God's peace dwells, allowing His light to shine through my words and actions.

What about you? What's your gift, and what mission does it guide you towards? Let's engage in a conversation. Share your thoughts in the comments below, and let's explore the beautiful tapestry of our individual gifts and missions together.

  1. Several years ago it became understood to me my mission involves caregiving and encouragement. Some days are hard when I am physically weary and emotionally on edge. But God continues to fuel the spark of hope that guides me in sharing it with others. And my mission field is within my own home right now. One thing I will say is caregivers need to be cared for also ...... and we need to let that be known to others. I'm sure you know that as a caregiver yourself.
