Opium Poltice

Here's an interesting advertisement I found in the November 16, 1878, edition of the British Medical Journal Advertiser:

BARNES IMPERMEABLE
OPIUM POLTICE
POISON
The fatal accidents which occur by the inadvertent swallowing of poisonous liniments are avoided by the use of this effective and convenient application.  Opium is presented in a soluble and humid condition, ever ready for use.
INTRODUCED AND PREPARED BY
J.B. BARNES, Pharmacist
Trevor Terrace, Kensington Rd.
(opposite the barracks)

Could you imagine just walking into a local pharmacist and getting this without a prescription.  That would be nice.  You could put it in one of those antique squeeze bulb syringes and puff away to happiness.  Just kidding.
